You are the parent of a child or young person who is struggling with their learning, with their emotions and behaviour, perhaps all of this?
Your child or young person is in the process of being assessed for learning difficulties such as dyslexia, autism or ADHD?
Your child or young person has learning disability such as Down’s or Fragile X, they have been diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, Dyspraxia or other condition affecting their learning and behaviour?
You are struggling to come to terms with the challenges your child is experiencing?
You are anxious, worried and confused as what to do and how to help them?
You have been given lots of advice and aren’t quite sure how to put it into practice?
You feel resentful at all the extra work you are being asked to do and that your child and your family life is not as you hoped or expected?
Your relationships are under a lot of pressure because of your parenting demands?

The EMBRACE learning approach is the outcome of our work with families of children and young people with disabilities and learning challenges over twenty years
We have seen many families struggling with how to best care and support their child and how hard it can be to find the right approach and keep going
Claire was meeting parents who were suffering emotionally with their parenting role and recognised it in her own life as the mum of a child with Down’s and autism
Lindsay was working with young people and their families to develop learning profiles which identified their communication, environment and emotional regulation needs
We recognised that what seemed to work best for families was when the parent carer’s emotions were acknowledged alongside support to understand their child or young person learning needs
So, we developed the EMBRACE approach which combines counselling for parents to explore their feelings with strategies to support their child
Central to this approach is working together – starting from where you are, whether you have lots of ideas or no ideas, whether you are overwhelmed or just confused as to what is best.
Then together we build the emotional capacity you need and develop tools that you can use to support your child or young person
This approach is about building your confidence and giving you ideas and strategies to improve your life as a family
